VERY RARE CARTIER NEW YORK HEXAGONAL SIGMA DIAL 18CT YELLOW GOLD CIRCA 1987
VERY RARE CARTIER NEW YORK HEXAGONAL SIGMA DIAL 18CT YELLOW GOLD CIRCA 1987
Since its creation by Louis Cartier in 1917, the Cartier Tank has been associated with some of the worlds most renowned figures from Royalty to actors from politicians to sports stars. The Cartier Tank is an iconic piece, steeped in horological history. Its design has certainly stood the test of time taking on a variety of different forms. The piece we have here is the Cartier which dates to 1987. The marks on the inside of the case back, show this piece was produced and sold by the New York store. It has a stepped case, similar to the Ceinture. The star of the show, the dial, has a two tone blue hexagonal dial which appears to be layered and also features a gilt pattern. The dial also bares the ‘sigma’ sign at the 6 o’clock position showing the hands and Cartier sign are noth made out of 18ct gold. The dial does have some light wear which you can see in the images. The 18ct gold case measures 25mm and has a crown. Housed behind the snap case back is a manually wound movement which is running well. It has been paired with a black leather strap. This piece shows everything we know and love about Cartier and its roots with unique designs. We have a yet to see another piece like this, its an absolutely stunning wristwatch.
