Since its introduction in the 1950s, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual GMT Master has taken centre stage in many watch collections and discussions. The reason being is, it’s a timeless watch. It has loosely defined the tool and sport watch categories. Rolex have been known for taking baby steps in the evolution of a model, the first being the reference 6542. The GMT Master has taken on a multitude of dial variations and references. This piece was produced in 1989.
The striking bronze tone sunburst dial has clean gold type, rose gold framed lume plot hour markers and is marked ‘SWISS-T<25’ below the 6 o’clock hour marker and is in immaculate condition along with the Mercedes hands. The ‘root beer’ bezel insert sits on the 40mm stainless steel case which is in fantastic condition with some hairline marks. Housed behind the screw down case back, which is marked ‘16710’, is the coveted automatic Rolex cal. 3185 movement which is clean, running well and keeping time. This would have been one of the first pieces to run off the cal. 3185 upon its release in 1989. The watch has a steel and gold Rolex jubilee 62523 bracelet with 402B end links. The bracelet is in great condition with some light hairline marks. The watch comes with its box and booklets.
