ROLEX OYSTER PERPETUAL DATE EXPLORER II 'POLAR' DIAL W/ BOX & GUARANTEE PAPERS REF. 16570 CIRCA 1999
The Explorer II was first introduced in 1971 with the reference 1655. It was specially designed for speleologists who explore caverns beneath the earth’s surface. Rolex have been known for taking baby steps in the evolution of a model, the first being the aforementioned 1655. The Explorer II has taken on a multitude of small changes to the reference, bringing us closer to the piece we have available.
The gloss white ‘polar’ dial which has lume plot hour markers with black frames has ‘SWISS MADE’ marked below the 6 o’clock hour marker and is in a clean condition, the Mercedes and GMT hands are also in good condition. The fixed 24hr bezel sits on the 40mm stainless steel case which is in good condition although showing light signs of wear with hairline scratches and other marks. Housed behind the screw down case back, is the automatic Rolex movement which is running well. The watch is fitted with a stainless-steel Rolex oyster 78790 bracelet which is in a similar condition with hairline scratches. The watch comes with a generic box and guarantee papers dated 1999.
