ROLEX OYSTER PERPETUAL DATEJUST 'ROULETTE DATE' REF. 6605 CIRCA 1956
ROLEX OYSTER PERPETUAL DATEJUST 'ROULETTE DATE' REF. 6605 CIRCA 1956
The Rolex Datejust is the ‘poster boy’ for Rolex. Globally recognised as one of the most popular watches in the world and certainly one of the most versatile. As a luxury watch it can be worn by anyone, for any occasion and at an achievable price point for a watch of its quality. The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust, since its release in 1945, has seen a multitude of different case materials from stainless steel to platinum, dial variations of every colour under the sun, set in an array of different styles, bezel variations and repeatedly improved mechanics. Whether you like the model or not, there is no denying that a Rolex Datejust is the definition of a ‘timeless watch’.
This particular reference is a 6605, it has a sunburst silver dial with silver ‘stick’ hour markers and clear black type. The dial is a later edition to the watch, likely changed during a service by a previous owner. The watch is fitted with dauphine hands, a ‘roulette’ date window at 3 o’clock and an unusual bezel. The roulette date wheel rotates between a black and a red date. The distinctive bezel is mounted on the 36mm stainless-steel oyster case which has remained in good condition although showing signs of a previous polish. It is paired with a stainless-steel Rolex jubilee 78360 bracelet. Housed behind the screw down ‘semi bubble’ case back is the coveted automatic Rolex cal. 1065 butterfly movement which is running well. The plexi has some light marks, we have opted to keep it on although it can be changed at the buyers request.
