ROLEX OYSTER PERPETUAL DATE GMT-MASTER 'ROOT BEER' STEEL & GOLD REF. 16753 CIRCA 1987
Since its introduction in the 1950s, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual GMT Master has taken centre stage in many watch collections and discussions. The reason being is, it’s a timeless watch. It has loosely defined the tool and sport watch categories. Rolex have been known for taking baby steps in the evolution of a model, the first being the reference 6542. The GMT Master has taken on a multitude of dial variations and references. This piece was produced in 1987.
The striking patina bronze tone dial has gold type, gold framed lume plot hour markers and is marked ‘SWISS-T<25’ below the 6 o’clock hour marker and is in a unique condition along with the Mercedes hands. The ‘root beer’ bezel insert sits on the 40mm stainless steel case which has some wear, as you can see in the images. Housed behind the screw down case back, is the coveted automatic Rolex cal. 3075 movement. This would have been one of the last pieces to run off the cal. 3075 with the introduction of the cal. 3185 in 1989. The watch has a steel and gold Rolex jubilee bracelet. The bracelet is in great condition only holding a little slack.
